I’m so fascinated by animals! Today I wanted to talk about Whales – the giants of the ocean! Whales are marine mammals, which means they are warm-blooded and breathe air, just like humans do.
Whales are one of the largest animals on Earth and are known for their immense size and unique characteristics.
There are two main types of whales: baleen whales and toothed whales. Baleen whales, such as humpback and blue whales, have a comb-like structure in their mouth called baleen that they use to filter food from the water. Toothed whales, such as killer whales and sperm whales, have teeth and hunt for their food.
Whales are known for their songs, which are complex vocalizations that they use to communicate with each other. The songs of some whale species can travel for hundreds of kilometers and can last for several minutes.
Whales are also migratory animals and travel long distances each year to feed and breed. Some species, such as humpback whales, migrate over 5,000 km (3,100 miles) each year.
