Have you ever wondered about our Solar system? The solar system is the group of planets and other objects that orbit, or go around, the sun which is at the center of our solar system. It gives off light and heat that helps us live here on Earth.
There are eight planets in our solar system. The closest planet to the sun is Mercury. It’s very hot because it’s so close to the sun! Venus is the second planet from the sun, and it’s also very hot. Earth is the third planet from the sun, and it’s the only planet we know of that has life on it! Mars is the fourth planet from the sun, and it’s sometimes called the “red planet” because it looks reddish in the sky.
Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system. It’s fifth from the sun, and it’s so big that all the other planets could fit inside it! Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun, and it’s known for its beautiful rings. Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun, and it’s very cold because it’s so far away from the sun. Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the sun, and it’s also very cold.
There are also other objects in our solar system, like comets and asteroids. Comets are made of ice and dust, and they have long tails that can be seen in the sky. Asteroids are big rocks that orbit the sun.
