Just in time for Easter, Scott the Dot has sent us another postcard – this time from Easter Island!
I am writing this postcard from Easter Island which is a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean, located about 2,000 miles off the coast of Chile. It is famous for its mysterious giant statues called “moai” that were meant to represent the islanders’ ancestors and that still dot the island’s landscape.
The island was first settled by Polynesians around 800 CE, and over time they built a thriving society which, unfortunately, eventually declined due to overpopulation and environmental degradation.
Next week – another Scott the Dot Anecdote!
