I’ve just discovered Geysers – they are like hot springs that shoot water high into the sky! They are some of the most amazing natural wonders on earth.
A geyser is a hot spring that has a small hole in the ground. Water from the spring goes down into the ground and gets heated up by the earth’s magma. When the water gets really hot, it turns into steam and builds up pressure in the hole. Then, suddenly, the pressure becomes too much and the steam shoots the water up into the air!
Yellowstone National Park in the United States is home to some of the most famous geysers in the world. Old Faithful is a geyser that erupts every 90 minutes or so and shoots water up to 180 feet (55 meters) into the air!
Geysers can be very beautiful, but they can also be dangerous. The water that shoots out of a geyser is extremely hot and can burn you. The gases that come out of a geyser can also be harmful if you breathe them in.
Despite the dangers, geysers are an important part of the natural world. They help to release heat and pressure from the earth’s crust and can create unique habitats for plants and animals.
